The History of Clean Bottle

Have you heard of Clean Bottle? The company was recently a successful recipient of funding on Shark Tank. NBA legend Bill Walton dressed up as a giant water bottle to woo the venture capitalists. No? Well, the Clean Bottle water bottle is a super cool new water bottle, and Bulletin Bottle [.com] is happy to announce we now have it available for imprinting with your logo.

The idea for Clean Bottle came to the founder on a bike ride, when he discovered mold, stink, and funk all over the bottom inside of his plastic water bottle. He threw it away because he couldn’t clean it out. Then…the idea! Why not have a bottle that unscrews at the top and the bottom? So that’s what they made. A simple, BPA-free plastic water bottle with an ingenious design. Even better? Clean Bottle donates 10% of profits to eco and cycling friendly charities.

Recycled Plastic Water Bottles Are Charging Cell Phones

Motorola has developed a universal battery pack that uses recycled plastic water bottles. That’s right, 25% of its P793 charger’s external housing is comprised of recycled post-consumer water bottles!

We hope you’re using reusable plastic water bottles, but if you DO happen to have a pesky disposable bottle laying around, be sure to properly recycle it so as to give it a chance help keep your battery from dying! Yes, it might be a long shot, but it’s pretty cool to think about.

The more recycled plastics are used by manufacturers, the less virgin plastic material that gets produced. That translates to less toxins going into the air and into the ground, and a cleaner, greener environment as a result. But, if everyone used reusable water bottles, this would be a nonissue to begin with!

Wrapping Paper: Wrapping paper is generally produced with chemical dyes that contribute to water pollution. Although you can put some wrapping paper in the recycling bin, the heavy inks downgrade the quality of the paper.

Tritan Straw Bottle: Bulletin Bottle Staff Review

For our staff reviews, we pick one or two of our water bottles, have our staff members put them through the wringer, and comment on the outcomes here (and encourage our clients to do the same!). This week, we’ve chosen our Tritan Straw Bottle.

Tritan water bottles are our favorite plastic water bottles. They are lightweight, durable, shatter resistant, and dishwasher safe. Tritan bottles do not absorb odors or stains, and keep the beverages in them tasting fresh and clean.

The Tritan Straw Bottle is a staff favorite. We love that it has all the benefits of a Tritan plastic water bottle, plus the added functionality that a straw top gives. The water flow was just right, and the finger hold made for easy portability. Our staff member preferred the straw because the water doesn’t slosh out of a wide opening. The only downside here is that the color options are a bit limiting.

Niagara Falls Upholds Plastic Water Bottle Ban

This week, Niagara Falls (Canada) council renewed its commitment to a bylaw first passed in 2009 that bans the the sale of water in plastic bottles on city-owned property.

The food and beverage provider at the city’s new Gale Centre had petitioned council to allow it to sell biodegradable water bottles, but the request was denied. Council was, however, dismayed to learn that while their bylaw may prohibit the sale of plastic water bottles, it does not keep visitors from bringing their own containers onto city property–which then raised questions about the city’s recycling efforts.

A Car Built from Recycled Water Bottles?

It’s not built entirely from plastic water bottles, but Ford’s new Focus Electric car features Repreve seat fabric. The fiber, manufactured by Unifi, is made from a hybrid blend of recycled materials—including the equivalent of more than 20 plastic bottles per car!

Unifi officials say 22 plastic, 16-ounce water bottles are used in the seat fabric of a single Focus Electric. The figure is based on the amount of Repreve branded fiber used in the production of fabric in each vehicle.

Lawsuit Brought Against Plastic Water Bottle Companies

In a first-ever lawsuit, the California Attorney General alleges that three companies have falsely claimed that their water bottles are “100% biodegradable and recyclable.”

In 2008, the California Legislature passed a law that prohibits food or beverage containers labeled with biodegradable, degradable, or decomposable, or anything that suggests that a food or beverage container will break down, fragment, biodegrade, or decompose in a landfill or other environment. Any claim must be substantiated by scientific evidence that all the materials in the package will break down into usable compost in a timely manner.

The suit claims that ENSO, Balance, and AquaMantra were illegally selling, or participating in arranging the sale of plastic beverage containers in or into California.
